MICHEL DESROSIERS dit DUTREMBLE

Michel Desrosiers dit Dutremble is son of Jean Desrosiers dit Dutremble and Francoise Dandonneau. He is grandson of the Antoine ancestor. He was baptized in Champlain on March 24, 1685. When his father dies on February 23, 1704, Michel is 19 years old. On november 26, 1705, his mother marry again with a surgeon, Henri Bellisle, originating from Angers in France and they leaves for Detroit next year.

Between the death date of his father and the date of his marriage with Marie-Jeanne Moreau in Rimouski on May 28, 1716, I have few indications on his activities. I don't know why he comes in Rimouski. Given that there were only the forest and the sea in the area, I suppose that he came there either for fishing or hunting. The historian Mario Mimeault says that Jean Moreau, the Marie-Jeanne's father, was a fisherman who  remained many years in Mont-Louis to fish before moving his family at Rimouski between 1711 and 1714. According with Georges Desrosiers, he doesn't have no proof that Michel Desrosiers was a fisherman in Mont-Louis.

In article «UNE SEIGNEURIE EN BOIS DEBOUT» on page 33 of June 1997 issue of the Revue d'Histoire du Bas-St-Laurent, Mrs. Beatrice Chasse mentions that Michel Desrosiers, with Lord Rene Lepage, would have taken part, at the fishing out stock escaped in the shipwreck of the ship Holland on November 20, 1709. According with Georges Desrosiers, in his notebook Les Desrosiers dans le Bas-St-Laurent au XVIIIe siècle, Michel Desrosiers (Dutremble) would be settled about 1710-1711 on land "about 200 meters on west of wharf of Rimouski" in seigniory of Rimouski. According to informations available, this family especially lived fishery products and hunting because it's very long time necessary to clear a sufficiently large land to live on it.

All textual information that reader will be able to provide me on the intrigues of Michel Desrosiers between 1700 and 1716 will be welcome.

Sixteen children will be born from this union between 1717 and 1740. Only Louis  has descendants in Rimouski area. With his family, he was installed on Lessard seigniory, at Anse au Lard in east part of Pointe-au-Père (Father Point), just in west of the current limits of Sainte-Luce where the streets of «du Phare» and «des Chalets» join road 132. He was probably the first colonist to be settled in this seigniory.

In october 10, 1746, before notary Claude Barolet (1728-1761), Michel Desrosiers and his wife are abandonned themselves to their son, Louis Desrosiers, so that he takes care of them until their death. As for his wife, Marie-Jeanne Moreau, her burial's date was November 15, 1756 in Rimouski. The burial date of Marie-Jeanne Moreau  is  novembre 15, 1756 at Rimouski after sudden death. The death certificate of Michel Desrosiers was not found. However, we know that he died after his wife. His death date is after the cession act by Louis Desrosiers to his brother Paul in mai 20, 1757 and before the sale of family land in juin 24, 1760.
