Why speak about Gagnon in these pages? My mother is Gagnon. I tried to reassemble his family tree. Unfortunately I stops with his grand-grand-father Joseph dit Gagnon. According to his marriage certificate with Marie-Georgiana Berube (Augustin, Marcelline Paradis) on october 21, 1862 in parish of St-Octave de Metis, he was an inhabitant of Assomption de Notre-Dame (Baie des Sables), but would be originating from Notre-Dame de l'Assomption. Is there confusion in way of describing the same place? Why priest did obtain a certificate of publication singing by priest of other parish?
In marriage certificate, the name of Eloi Gagnon appear as adoptive father of Joseph. Mother name isn't mentioned. I suppose it was the practice at this moment. However, the notary Joseph Fournier wrote a contract of mariage (october 20, 1862) making mention that Eloi was father of Joseph and also his mother name, Auzine Leveque, appear on it. By contract wrote by notary Joseph Fournier on août 10 1863, Eloi Gagnon et Angele(?) Leveque make donation inter vivos to Joseph Gagnon, their adoptive son. This donation follow promise made by Eloi Gagnon in contract of marriage mention previously.
I want searching to find others documents to determine if Joseph Gagnon was a children of Eloi Gagnon out of marriage or a son of Eloi and Auzine Leveque before their marriage or an orphan of parents near Eloi or Auzine, etc. If somebody has details on this person or his adoptives parents, please inform me. Together, we might be able to discover his ancestors even if certain specialists said to me that it unusual to reveal name of natural parents in century XIX.
