ANTOINE  DESROSIERS

The ancestor, Antoine Desrosiers, is a son of Antoine Desrosiers and Sylvie Trou..., " baptized on April 14, 1617, in the borough of Renaison, department of the Loire, district of Roanne, Auvergne, in the country of Lyonnais  ". According to George Desrosiers, concerning the photocopy of this baptismal certificate, the name must be read Denise and not Desrosiers rather. Even if it is impossible to locate the date and the exact birthplace of the ancestor, it is probable that he was born in this area in France. Still today, the Loire and the Saone-and-Loire are departments where there is the most Desrosiers. After having analyzed the censuses of this time, George Desrosiers locates his date of birth into 1619.  

Antoine Desrosiers is in Nouvelle France, at least since 1641 because in January of the following year, he acts like godfather of a young Indian in Sillery, Quebec. He thus knew Paul de Chomedey de Maisonneuve and Jeanne Mance, who waiting for spring, to go up the St.Laurent river to the Island of Montreal. 

In september 1645, father Jerome Lallemant, superior of the Jesuits, notes in his journal that Antoine Desrosiers works for them in Trois-Rivières. Active and practical man, he takes a very good place as colonist and carpenter. Also the family of ancestor Michel LeNeuf du Herisson live is this parish. About 1636, he arrived with his daughter Anne Du Herisson. She is native borough of Thury in the south of Caën in Normandie, France. She married with Antoine between  november 24, 1647, date of marriage contract et september 1649, nine months before birthday of her oldest girl. The private contract of marriage was signed in house of his father-in-law and it was destroyed by fire some years later.

In october 28, 1649, the governor Ailleboust concedes at Antoine a land of 20 arpents outside the borough of Trois-Rivières, on river banks Saint-Maurice. In may 2, 1650, because of the indian threat, Antoine is seen granting a site in borough at north-eastern corner of street Notre-Dame and street St-Michel. Nowadays, there is the historic House of Gannes, a jewel of Trois-Rivières inheritance. Then, in 1657, Antoine receives another land of 25 arpents from the governor Pierre Boucher. The village of Pointe-du-Lac occurs on it.

In may 26, 1659, with 2 others companions, Antoine is captured near St-Pierre lake by Iroquois. One of them is tortured and died by fire. In August 16, the Journal of Jesuits mentions that "Antoine Desrosiers had escaped from Onontageronons towards Ontario lake. Then he succeeds in returning in Trois-Rivières".

In march 17, 1665, Pezard de la Touche concedes a land to Antoine Desrosiers in seigniory of Champlain where he will settle with his family after he solded his property in Trois-Rivières. Into 1668,  as master-carpenter, he undertakes the construction of the windmill of Fathers Jesuits at Point of St-Éloy in seigniory of Batiscan. In august 29, 1669, a sale contract say that Antoine Desrosiers is judge of the seigniory of Champlain. Later, he was named tax prosecutor, syndic.

The ancestor Antoine Desrosiers dies on August 8, 1691 in Champlain and is buried, the 9, at approximately 72 years old. His widow followed him only 20 years later to the age of 79 years.

Anne Duherisson and Antoine Desrosiers have eight children. Three of four surviving boys take a surname. Initially Michel was born in September 3, 1652. He took the surname of Desilets. He had 9 children with his wife Marie-Jeanne-Thomasse Artaut whose mother was a algonquine.

Then, Jean was born into 1657. He adds the surname of Dutremble to his family name. He married with Marie-Francoise Dandonneau, daughter of the pioneers, Pierre Dandonneau and Francoise Jobin. He dies relatively young at 46 years old. Jean and Marie-Françoise had eleven children from of which Michel, born into 1685. Michel married in 1716, Marie-Jeanne Moreau, daughter of ancestor Jean Moreau and Marie-Anne Rodrigue. Michel was the first Desrosiers in Rimouski.

In august 30, 1664, was born Antoine, third son surviving of Desrosiers/Duherisson couple. When he married Marie-Renee Lepelle or Lepelee on November 26, 1696, he is known as Sieur de La Freniere. With his wife, he have eleven children.

Finally, Pierre was born into 1667. With his wife Marguerite Aubuchon, he have 9 children.  His son Pierre will take the surname of Dargis.  

Jean and his brother, Antoine, will be the two larges travellers of this family. They will make several voyages in the west for the draft of the furs.
